I started this blog to challenge myself to make something every week. Jede Woche eine Motiv, kann ich doch, said the header of this blog. (That’s German for: A motif each week, sure I can) I did continue to make creating part of my life, but documenting has always been my weakness. I mean, I don’t even know when my firstborn’s first tooth appeared, or when she first called me mama anymore. The list of her first twenty words? Went missing after entry #3. I think I exhausted all my documentation mojo in Vietnam during that one year of qualitative field research.
The idea was to make or bake or cook for friends weekly. I actually kept up the baking… Until I realised how much more of my cookies brownies and cakes I was eating than my friends and husband were. The bake-fest met its ominous end with my purge-fast, because after that fast I realised I was pregnant and apparently pregnant women really ought not to –no, no, tsk tsk — consume so many empty calories.
The crochet frenzy kept on a rather unexpected momentum, often waning with the achievement of milestones like draft completion and submissions, I.e., stress reduction, and waxing with crippling writer’s block and looming deadlines, because stress really needs procrastination. Looking back, it is amazing that I first picked up a crochet hook in December 2013, with such mastery my mother had to sigh in exasperation and beg me to stop trying because it just wasn’t going to work out.
Because I am a hardcore list-maker, here’s the list of stuff I have hooked, made and baked since 2013. I’ll be adding the pictures and links in a bit!
